Mission

The mission of the Department of Surgery Histology Core is to provide high-quality histological services to support clinical and basic science research across the science community. Our facility offers a broad range of histological and immunohistochemical services on a fee-for-service basis to investigators.

֍ This core facility utilizes iLab, an online management tool that allows researchers to request services, schedule equipment and manage billing with UW shared resources.

We provide a comprehensive array of histopathology services and expertise that allows researchers to fully exploit the power of animal models to reveal mechanisms that contribute to disease processes.

Translational Science Biocore - BioBank ֍

Mission

The Translational Science BioCore (TSB) BioBank facilitates basic science and translational research through the integration of human biospecimen collection and storage with services in histology, molecular and morphometric analyses, in partnership with the Translational Research Initiatives in Pathology (TRIP) laboratory. The TSB BioBank prospectively collects, stores and distributes human cancer biospecimens, including tissue, blood, and other body fluids, in accordance with procedures that comply with the confidentiality, safety and other regulatory standards set by UW-Madison and the National Cancer Institute’s Best Practices for Biospecimen Resources. Specialized tissue microarrays (TMAs) with clinical annotation can also be developed to support the individual needs of investigators.

Translational Science BioCore -Translational Research Initiatives in Pathology Laboratory (TRIP) ֍

Mission

The Translational Science BioCore (TSB) TRIP facilitates basic science, translational and clinical research through the integration of human biospecimen collection and storage with services in histology, molecular and digital pathology analyses, in partnership with the TSB-BioBank. Our mission is to provide high quality histological, histochemical, molecular and imaging analyses services such as imaging of slides, IHC/ISH stains and human cell line authentication on a fee for service basis to the UW campus research community and beyond. Specialized tissue microarrays (TMAs) with clinical annotation can also be developed to support the individual needs of investigators.

  • Histology and histochemical stains
  • Creation and distribution of clinically annotated TMAs, creation of any animal model and cell line TMAs
  • Human tissue repository: normal tissue and cases resembling different human conditions/diseases, control TMAs for biomarker discovery
  • Immunohistochemistry (IHC): single/multiplexed, colorimetric/fluorescent
  • In situ hybridization (ISH): RNAscope – single/multiplexed, colorimetric/fluorescent
  • Imaging: digital slide scanning RGB (Aperio) and multispectral modalities (Vectra/Nuance)
  • Image analysis: Nuance and inForm morphometric analysis software
  • Molecular pathology: Human cell line authentication, 10x Visium spatial gene expression, nucleic acid extraction from tissues and real time RT-PCR
  • Project design and assistance with several board-certified pathologist available
